s3ntube i11l · Monica Ayhens‑Madon Talks Thundermail, Ubuntu MATE & Open‑Source Community Power | DL486

Christian Spaan 06.10.2026 Linux

In Destination Linux Episode 486, Jill hosts an extended and heartfelt conversation with **Monica Ayhens‑Madon**, one of the most passionate open‑source community advocates in the Linux world. Monica shares her journey from Canonical’s Community Team to Ubuntu MATE, her time on the Ubuntu Community Council, and her current role helping shape the future of Thunderbird.

We dive into the upcoming *Thundermail* web client, Thunderbird’s modernization efforts, community building, privacy, security, and the philosophy behind empowering users through open‑source tools. Ryan discusses data portability and rclone, Zeb brings his signature wit, and Jill leads the conversation with warmth and enthusiasm. This episode ran long - in the best way - because the conversation with Monica was simply too good to cut short.
