About: Trust and why it's made of sacrifice
As a tech person, allow me to introduce an analogy, one that is taken forth from Mother Nature. One about scared cats and scratchy arms.
As a person who was shortly introduced to an awesome little cat whose cat mom unfortunately died soon after and left this young precious predator behind to be taken to shelter, I can confirm that trust comes at a cost - a lot of scratches on my forearm to be precise. For these were an ask for independance - and an ask not to be pushed around.
Tech & Trust
Which reminds me of Big Tech - there are a lot of scratches, but still no big trust.
For trust is made of sacrifice, not of promises. In other words: My cat trusts me because I let him laniate my poor arms. But we can still not trust Big Tech considering all the fear, uncertainty and doubt spread (btw nobody knows the "b" in doubt).
The sacrifice
The clou is this one: You gotta GIVE at times instead of TAKING.
You gotta waive some of your profit to gain the users' trust that they are not mere profit maximizers. And you gotta take the pain of asking for your profit.
In oher words: You gotta EARN YOUR TRUST.
Conclusion
Take my cat for example: He destroyed my forearm to make his point… which is…
"I really don't like to be pushed around, meow".
The current AI industry is instead messing with us by doing exactly that: They are pushing us around… demanding trust where there is none - for a product that is far from fancy.
Sure, this comment is a bit sneaky, but this is the bottom line:
Trust is made of sacrifice, not promises. You can totally ask my cat. Meow.
